Success!!
The Saturday balloon launch was a success. The balloon launched at 8:58am and was recovered at approximately 11:30am 5 miles north-north
east of Argyle, MN. It landed 58.77 miles NE of the launch site. Some tracking points were not saved but you can see the path of
the balloon here.

First Balloon Launch
- Flight #2009-1
- University of North Dakota High Altitude Balloon Project
- Date/time: Saturday, November 21, 9:00am CT
- Launch Site: Ray Nemoseck, Google Map (lat, lon) = (47.81713,-97.64657)
- APRS Frequency: 145.600 MHz
The backup tracking device is a SPOT gps unit that transmits every 11-20 minutes, approximately, and is able to do so at
altitudes below 20,000 feet, and should meet our requirements as secondary tracking. A public map for tracking can be
found at the following url:

1 possible flight path was resolved from Near Space Ventures
and can be seen here: Click for map!

Balloon Launch!
The first available date for a UND High-Altitude Balloon (UND HAB) launch is Saturday, November 7.
The purpose of this flight is to test the tracking gear that John Boucha and Sanchit Goyal having been working on.
We may also fly a small biological payload provided by Dr. Rygalov (Space Studies). This launch would occur in early-
to mid-morning on that day, and the chase could last well into the afternoon.
How many of you would be able to participate in a launch on this date? How many would be able to provide transportation
during the chase? In the past, participants have been re-imbursed for gas expenses. I anticipate the same still holds true,
but will check into that prior to the launch date.
